Elena Gin comes from Barolo country. It was developed by Elena Penna Currado and Luca Currado Vietti of the legendary Vietti winery in Castiglione Falletto, and the idea was to revive a Piedmontese tradition older than the region's wine fame — producing gin, herbal liqueurs, and vermouth in the hills of the Langhe, with roots reaching back to the Middle Ages. The result is a London Dry "in Langa Style," meaning classic juniper-forward structure built entirely from local terroir: Maritime Alpine juniper, almond, Langhe thyme, black elderflower, Alpine angelica flower, wild mint, wild chamomile, coriander, cassia, and the peel of organically grown citron and chinotto from the Ligurian hills. Everything is hand-picked in the Alta Langa and the Piedmontese Alps. The production is genuinely old-school: two rediscovered 18th-century copper pot stills, fired with wood, running the "one shot" method where botanicals are distilled with the spirit exactly once. Filtration is cold, through natural paper, with no resins, bleaching carbons, synthetic flavorings, or colorants — which is why the gin carries a faint hue from the herbs and the wood fire. Bottled at 42% ABV in batches of around 2,600 bottles. Expect a strong juniper nose with citrusy aromatic herbs, then an opulent, oily, full-bodied palate where the spice and herbs emerge after a few seconds and persist a long time.
